Energy Balance of Uniformly Accelerated Charge*t

چکیده
If the electromagnetic field of a uniformly accelerated charge is computed by means of Liknard-Wiechert potentials, it is found that the result does not correspond to a single source. Besides the original uniformly accelerated charge there is also a second charge, which is spread on a plane recessing in the opposite direction with the velocity of light. The work performed by this second charge against the electromagnetic field is equal to the constant rate of radiation of the physical system. This resolves the old paradox of the energy balance of a uniformly accelerated charge, which radiates at a constant rate, although it undergoes no radiation reaction.

Electrodynamics of hyperbolically accelerated charges V. The field of a charge in the Rindler space and the Milne space
We describe the electromagnetic field of a uniformly accelerated charge in its co-moving Rindler frame. It is shown that the electrical field lines coincide with the trajectories of photons. The self force of a charged particle at rest in Rindler space, and the increase of its weight due to its charge, is calculated. The general case of an accelerated charge in Rindler space is also considered....

A core topic in graduate courses in electrodynamics is the description of radiation from an accelerated charge and the associated radiation reaction. However, contemporary papers still express a diversity of views on the question of whether or not a uniformly accelerating charge radiates suggesting that a complete physical understanding of the energy content of the fields surrounding an acceler...
متن کاملRadiation from a Uniformly Accelerated Charge and the Equivalence Principle
We argue that purely local experiments can distinguish a stationary charged particle in a static gravitational field from an accelerated particle in (gravity-free) Minkowski space. Some common arguments to the contrary are analyzed and found to rest on a misidentification of “energy”.
متن کاملElectrodynamics of Radiating Charges
The theory of electrodynamics of radiating charges is reviewed with special emphasis on the role of the Schott energy for the conservation of energy for a charge and its electromagnetic field. It is made clear that the existence of radiation from a charge is not invariant against a transformation between two reference frames that has an accelerated motion relative to each other. The questions w...
متن کاملRadiation from a Uniformly Accelerated Charge*
The electromagnetic field associated with a uniformly accelerated charge is studied in some detail. The equivalence principle paradox that the co-accelerating observer measures no radiation while a freely falling observer measures the standard radiation of an accelerated charge is resolved by noting that all the radiation goes into the region of space time inaccessible to the co-accelerating ob...
